10 Things to Look Forward to in 2020

Arriving into 2017 got me thinking about how close we are to the end of yet another decade.  2020 may sound like a year used for a scifi futuristic plot, but it is only 3 short years away.  One of the things I look forward to most is being able to call it the twenties, instead of the last two decades where it has been awkwardly confusing.  Do we call it the zeroes?  Then what? The tens?  Teens? It will be nice to get that all sorted out.  Anyways, here are ten more things I am excited about for the year 2020…

10. Tokyo Summer Olympics

2020 will be the year Michael Phelps announces that he will compete in every competition of the Olympics.  Where he will go on to win 100’s of gold medals, including some only available to women.  It is going to be historic.  That is if Trump can keep his foreign affairs under control.

9. Leaving Phones on for Flights

Airlines will finally admit that there is absolutely no reason to turn your phone off during take-off’s and landings.  Which will be perfect considering all the Pokemon that will available in Pokemon Go by then.  And, hopefully better games by then.

8. Tool album

I am convinced that Tool is purposely waiting till 2020 to reveal their next album.  Though, it may just be the year where they finally give us some news about their work and we have to wait an extra ten years.

7. 5G

Okay, I know that the transition from 3G to 4G seemed to effect absolutely nothing.  However, 5G is supposed to be a much bigger deal.  Although, with that said phone bills are getting ridiculous and by then our phones are gonna cost us more than our cars each month.

6. Movies

Actually, I cant be certain this will be a good year for film.  With 2019 featuring the culmination of the modern Star Wars trilogy, and the Avengers Infinity War, what will be left for 2020?  Announced so far is Avatar 3?  Fantastic Beasts 3?  And Cyborg… by then DC will probably throw in the towel though, and they will have a soundtrack and cameo from Vanilla Ice or something.  But, Marvel phase 4, should be pretty amazing.

5. Walt Disney

2020 will be the year we unthaw Walt Disney and bring him back to life.  He is going to be pissed right off.  When he passed away it was a world of racism and bigotry.  When he sees the diversity they brought into his film company and parks he is going to flip.  It is going to be so funny!  The internet will have so many meme’s of his shocked expressions.

4. Technology

I don’t even know?  AI? Self driving cars? Nanobot doctors?  Microchips in our brains?  Robots on the moon?  Who knows where we will be by then, but what is scary is what we will be looking at inventing for the following decade.

3. Winds of Winter

After the Game of Thrones series has already revealed everything these stories have to offer, Winds of Winter will be irrelevant and will read more like a book about a TV show.  Meanwhile, Rothfuss’s Doors of Stone will be the highest selling book of the year, and Sanderson will have 30 more books out.

2. Super Baseball 2020

Probably Japan’s new national sport.  Super Baseball 2020 will be the first sport to have men, women, and robots play on an equal field.  Featuring power suits with updates, and the best part, robots will literally explode mid-game!

1. US Election

After a disastrous four years, America will finally be able to make amends and get Trump out of office.  Which will make the year 2020 known as the year that everyone saw things clearly.

Thanks booknerds, sorry for that last pun, had to be done.

well this certainly made me laugh, btw what makes you think Rothfus will have released Doors of Stone by 2020 ? for all we know 2020 will see us watching the season 3 of the lionsgate Kingkiller Chronicles TV series and Rothfus will still be playing his games and apologizing for the delay in book 3

Pfft, I think Rothfuss is already done and he’s just making us sweat now. The TV series will be awesome though.

  3. Poor Walt. But depending on how Trump’s America goes, a lot of that rampant racism, antisemitism, and misogyny may be hip in the U.S. again…as long as we all aren’t fighting for survival in the harsh shadow of nuclear winter cast in the frigid, violent post-apocalyptic dystopia that rose from the ashes of his causing WWIII.

Was…was that too dark? Either way, I loved the post! This was fantastic :).

Whoa! It seems youre getting angrier the more it settles in, eh?

      1. Maybe “frustrated” or “disappointed” more than “angry.” I go back and forth between dark humor and comedic hyperbole to mellow the sting and wallowing in where exactly we as a country goes from here. Despite the dark brooding, I remain hopeful…if already exhausted by the long road ahead.
