Happy Sunday and welcome back to another installment of the Mise en Place. A weekly post about the ongoings and the upcomings in the world of the Green Onion blog. The world is becoming a scary place as the days go by here, so I want to make one thing clear. Everyone is invited to the Green Onion blog. No matter your race, sex, age, religion, sexuality, heck, if you are reading this from a galaxy far, far away, or a reptile-person from Talinox-42, you are welcome here, you are a friend. You will be treated with respect, so long as you are respectful.
Listen, I have seen some other bloggers, treat visitors like fools, or idiots because they are younger or they don’t share the same views. I learned something in my cooking career that has become a valuable life lesson. Everyone can teach you something. When it comes to food, everyone eats. Whether it was the 16-year-old fresh meat dishwasher, the chef with 30 years of experience, or the 80-year-old regular that comes in and eats the same thing everyday, everyone has had their own experiences and knows something you don’t, or has a preference that no one else does. Everyone has a perspective to share, and you can learn, if you listen. It is a motto that has lead my career, and my life and it has never steered me wrong. In terms of us booknerds, you never judge a book by its cover. I do a lot of top 10’s or reviews that are my personal opinion, but that does not mean you are not entitled to yours, and everyone is welcome to share their perspective. In fact, I love it. Everyone is different and that should be celebrated.
Alright, alright, let’s get into the good stuff, and as usual I like to kick things off with what is going on for me and I got some big news’s, so…
What’s Going On-
This was a milestone week here at the Green Onion blog. For one, I hit 500 WordPress followers! Which means I have surpassed the 6 month/500 follower mark. Booyah! That is awesome, I am proud and should be. Thank you to everyone! Not only such, but we have also passed 10,000 views! Nutty. The humble origins of this blog would have never expected such. But, here we are looking forward to a great 2017 of blogging. Cheers booknerds, which was never meant offensively, but affectionately.
Jenn received some major news this week. Recently passing her rookie season in her nursing career, she has accomplished so much. She is loved by her colleagues and patients. She has had multiple opportunities that she has never shied away from. And, she has kept her personal goals in sight. Well it paid off. For awhile Jenn has been doing some part-time research work at the University of Calgary. Well the doctor in charge of the study approached her this week and asked if she would like to study for her Masters. Basically, basically handing the position to her with every opportunity for success. This is something Jenn has wanted but would not have expected or attempted for years. Proving everything that I have known for a long time. Jenn is an amazing woman. I am so happy and proud of her. Congratulations Jenn, you deserve it and I will be here by your side every step of this journey. I love you.
And for something a little more light-hearted. In our recent attempts to eat and live healthier Jenn discovered a site with low carb, low calorie desserts. So, we tried out this recipe for dairy free coconut macaroons. Worst things ever. I mean terrible, wretched, inedible. Who ever wrote this recipe did not try it before they posted it. Just because something sounds good in theory does not mean it works. So, if anybody has a horse or pig to feed, I got some cookies for you.
Last Weeks Posts-
- Switching things up, I felt a necessity to talk about my recent struggles with Audiobooks: Subscriptions and Costs.
- My addition to the Star War ComLINK, where I get to talk about Rogue One and how I am one with the Force.
- Finally, I talk about Axe Cop and the brilliance of a 5-year-old author.
- By request, for my brothers birthday, I talk about Lego books!
- Friday we took a look at the 5 movies we are most excited to see in February.
After last weeks talk about audiobooks, I thought I should do a post on what I discovered. Spoiler, there is no magic answer. In celebration of Jenn going back to school, I have a special top 10 lined up. Maybe I will get to that graphic novel review I was supposed to do last week. We got some fresh children’s books, so I should talk about one of the best kidlit authors out there right now. Finally, a new month deserves a look at the pop culture history. As always, all of this and more, so be sure to come by and check things out. Oh, and keep an eye on the Mise en Place next week as things may not be as per usual.
Thanks booknerds, and Reptile-people of Talinox-42.
