The Sunday Mise en Place (French pronunciation: mi zã ‘plas) is the weekly post I use to wrap up the week and give a sneak peak at what to look forward to. I use the culinary term, mise en place, meaning “everything in it’s place”, as a means to organize myself. So I approach each week refreshed, settled, and with a plan going forward. Why should you care? In each Sunday Mise en Place you will find the links for that weeks posts in one convenient spot. Also, I like to add some additional tidbits, a preview of future posts, and I let you know a little bit about me, my life, and what’s going on…
What’s Going On?-
After two weeks of Red Onion on the Mise en Place I would love to thank everybody for the excitement around the event. All joking aside, Red Onion Week was ‘tremendously’ successful. I received tonnes of positive feedback, reached many new people, and had a lot of fun! Side note: I also appreciate that no one gives me a hard time on my Canadian spelling of words with unnecessary letters.
This week has been about family! Valentines was a success and you will be happy to know Jenn got the appreciation she deserved and had a wonderful day. The kids started their first swimming lessons on Tuesday, of course they love it. Here’s something about Alex: She may, just possibly be, and I may check Guinness on this one, be the loudest human on the planet. Her happy laughs and squeals will make babies and small animals startle two city blocks away. Windows shatter! So, when Alex is having fun at the swimming pool, everyone knows! Sure, there’s lots of excess noise and water to drown her out, but no. Her screeches of joy reach the perfect pitch to echo and reverberate through the entire building. You can imagine what it’s like when she gets mad.
It happens to be Family Day weekend here in Alberta. In celebration we made off for a day trip to Banff on Friday. For those unfamiliar, Banff (or what I like to call, Bamf thanks to Nightcrawler of the X-Men) National Park is one of the most beautiful mountain parks in North America. Like on a level with Aspen, or Whistler. Jenn and I complain a lot about missing Vancouver Island. And rightly so, because Vancouver Island is, biasedly, the greatest place on Earth. But having such a beautiful place in our backyard is a blessing.
Last Weeks Posts-
- Kicking off this week was a review of a superhero novel by an ex-CIA agent in A Once Crowded Sky by Tom King.
- Valentines Day featured a post on 10 Children’s books for the day of love.
- Spider-Man/Deadpool may just be the dynamic duo that this city deserves.
- A look at one of my favourite childhood stories in, I Have To Go! by Robert Munsch.
- Then, I got to share some love that got sent my way, and hopefully gained some new followers for my friends in the Blogger Appreciation Award.
This should be a pretty exciting week. I will be covering an event that the media never told us about. I have been reading a lot of Marvel these days, I am gonna shake it up by going as DC as it gets. We all get a lesson on being cool from the source. And we will take a look forward at next months must see films. Be sure to swing by, lots to read, lots to see.
Thanks booknerds, happy Family Day, Alberta!
