Sunday Mise en Place (Feb. 20 to 26, ‘017)

Happy Mise en Place, it’s time for Sunday.  The weekly this and that of everything that is The Green Onion Blog.  It was a stellar week and I enjoyed writing a few fun posts.  However, the theme around our community this week felt like comradery.  There were many examples all over the board.  Chicnerdreads revealed her poetry book cover, which looks great, and everyone is excited.  It’s great to see how many people on here are supporting her.  Congratulations Gretchen.  Then after Jeff, The Imperial Talker, got some unnecessary Twitter-flack for his post, Your Snoke Theory Doesn’t Suck, Michael of My Comic Relief reacted with his own post defending his good friend, and the positive message he was trying to invoke.  So,… how cute is that?  Even here, at the G.O.B., after being a cheesy/corny little allium on last weeks Blogger Appreciation Award, I was surprised and humbled by a heartfelt thank you post from Rob @ My Side of the Laundry Room.  Which was amazing and I can’t thank you enough, Rob, for the kind words.

Blogging can often feel like a numbers game.  Reaching milestones, breaking personal records and reaching those goals.  We are all guilty of it, because it’s not wrong, it’s the only way we have to measure how we are doing.  But making those types of friends, being a part of such a supportive community, that’s what makes it worth it.  I would trade 100 views for one reader that gets what I am trying to say and comes back tomorrow, any day.  Blah, blah, blah, am I the only one who noticed my posts are getting longer and longer.  Let’s just get into what is going on for me this week…

What’s Going On-

Nothing actually.  Pretty quiet week.  I hear that lots of you are enjoying some warm weather and glimpses of spring.  Not us.  There was even a flash blizzard this morning where I couldn’t see halfway down the block.  Other than that, kids are enjoying their swimming lessons, Jenn is scrambling to put the pieces together to start her Masters in the fall.  Everything is progressing nicely.

As for me, I have been getting deep into a couple new fiction projects.  One of which, may possibly be for all of you, but that’s down the road.  I have been looking into writing groups.  I like the idea of dedicated times and spaces for my fiction writing, some networking, getting into the local writing community more.  It worked well during NaNoWriMo, I made my way to a couple workshops and write-ins.  I guess I am just nervous of jumping into an established group and having to play the socializing game.  Any thoughts?  Is anyone in, or have been in, a writing group and have some insight they could share?

Last Weeks Posts-

  • Had my first look at the DC Rebirth.  Justice League seemed like a fitting place to start.

Upcoming-

Struggled a bit with piecing the week together.  Like I said my mind has been in fiction writing mode.  But looking at the plan, should be a great week.  I will review a book that I didn’t give proper respect to the first time.  Who doesn’t love a Top 10?  We’ll be getting prepped for Logan, talk some childhood classics, and dive into March history.  As always, you can expect this, and maybe more, so please feel free to swing by.

Thanks booknerds, I’d just like to announce that I also will not be attending the White House Correspondents Dinner this year.  I wasn’t invited.

Yeah, I had a tough time getting back into writing after NaNoWriMo, but I am feeling good right now. Things are moving. It is great seeing how people have gathered around your book, it’s awesome!

  2. I am very excited to hear you have been in writing mode 🙂 I think it is okay if you don’t line the next week out to a T. I am completely unorganized aha. I survive.. maybe by the skin of my teeth (what a gross saying).

Gretchen’s cover is gorgeous! Such an exciting time for her ❤

I actually find it interesting that you mention blogging and a game of numbers. Sometimes I feel this is too true. I see all of the posts about reaching a certain amount of followers and our goals (I have my own that I quickly abandon) and wonder if I care too much or too little at time. I am too quick to disregard when WP announces these milestones and never seem to know how many followers or likes I have. I think I just want interaction. As long as that is happening, I am happy. So while I enjoy progress, I get what you are saying 🙂

    Happy Sunday!

I just hate being stuck not knowing what to write for the day, you know? I just like to have a broad plan, even if I fail to follow it half the time, haha. I agree with everything you say about the numbers. I never know if I am paying too much, or too little attention. But, it is the only way to track progress most the time, so… Yeah.

      1. Yeah numbers always seem to prevail to an extent.

As far as planning.. I keep attempting this with various approaches and never stick to anything with the blog. It is odd because there are somethings that I absolutely must have spelled out to a T. Go figure 😉

I know exactly what you mean. And theres no rhyme or reason some of the well plotted posts come out blah and some of the whim posts come out stellar. Blogging, eh?

Thank you!! The support of people is worth more to me than the numbers, but yes I even will let “numbers” tell me my self worth on a bad day. It truly can be a game we play but as long as one person reads my silly little posts I feel like I win.

It’s nice getting back into it. I kind of started this blog as a way to help me write more. Now its gotten away with itself
