Sunday Mise en Place (Mar. 6 to 26, ‘017)

Well hello there.  It’s time to get this train moving again after an unexpected hiatus.  There is no better way for the G.O.B. to get going than a good ol’ Mise en Place.  I apologize to my friends and followers who have missed my posts.  After I threw an epic tea party in honour of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland things must have got out of hand because, my phone and laptop didn’t want to play anymore.  Most frustrating about this figurative rug-pull was the writing momentum I was enjoying at the time.  So, how did I combat that?  What have I been up to?  And, what’s been going on?

What’s Going On-

Well, I kept writing.

I had been initializing a project for my blogging future, in which I lost much of what had been written.  Therefore, my initial plan was to rewrite what had been lost.  I quickly learned there is nothing less fun, or inspiring, as rewriting something you wrote the week before.  I had to set that aside, but plan on a fresh approach as early as this afternoon.

Then I took the opportunity to edit some of my older short stories.  They are stronger for it, and refocused me.  I originally started the G.O.B. as a source to keep me consistently writing, strengthen through practice, and a place to write whatever appealed to me.  I have gone mad for it.  I love blogging and I am proud of my site.  However, it has taken over.  I have put such effort into blogging and posting everyday, I forgot what I want to do.  And, at points it has become stressful; figuring out what to post all the time.  After reassessing all of this, it became clear I want to push forward in more fiction writing.  And my blog, my lovely little blog should be treated as more of a home base of personal self expression, and less of an everyday formulaic stress.  I blog for fun, that’s how I have to approach it.

I have a new game plan.  I have been working on lots of new fiction stories and will be working hard at my main goal of publication.  I have many avenues in which I will be taking this on, from contests, to putting enough together to build a book, and everything in between.  As for the Green Onion Blog, well, you get the best of it.  I will be posting on here only the things I love to write.  Instead of pushing myself to finish reading a book so I can get a review up, I will review them as they come, stress free.  Top 10’s, funny posts, talking about pop culture and all the great new books, comics, movies, and such that comes out.  And of course the Mise en Place, which is a great place for me to journal life, my writing, and blogging.  The name of the game going forward is fun.

Other than that, life’s been good.  Quick recap of the last couple weeks-  phone companies suck.  Kids had a great visit with their Nana for her 50th birthday.  Happy birthday Nana.  Went bowling, rolled my first turkey.  Winter finally slowed down, snow’s still melting.  Alien: Covenant preview = OMG, I can’t wait.  Happy birthday Auntie Creaky.  Stormlight 3, Oathbringer, got a new cover- actually I might want to talk more about that later.  Jenn and I got new computers to combat our failing laptop, Jenn got hers for free from her Masters program, rad.  Alex is faking sick to get out of school- preschool.  New supplement plan (Jenn loves putting me on supplement plans) works surprisingly well.  Best friend is moving back to B.C., that blows.  Got tickets for Tool concert, stoked.  Captain Underpants preview looks gloriously true-to-form.  Got phone back, way to go LG.  Spring break.  Epic Twitter dance party.  Justice League preview… I dunno, we’ll see.  Head cold.

Last (couple) Weeks Posts-

  • Madness, the post in which I accept my fate, and the loss of my phone.

I have a review coming for a book from one of my favourite authors.  Kids got a really good book that I am surprised I have never talked about.  It’s the end of the month already, time to look at what is coming in April.  And, I have a lot of blog posts to read, I will do my best to catch up on what is going on in your worlds.

Thanks booknerds, aww I missed you guys.

  5. Again, welcome back my friend. And welcome to the new phase of your blog! This is exciting! I’m intrigued to see the posts that come our way…as well as hearing about the fiction writing. Just think, someday i’ll be perusing Barnes & Noble and I’ll pick up a collection of your short stories, sigh loudly and wistfully, and remark, “I knew him when…”

Then, I’ll keep doing it every time I go in until the staff has to awkwardly ask me to stop/what my problem is. But I’ll persist! There’s no such thing as bad p.r. you know? I’ve got you covered :).
