Star Wars Celebration is right around the corner, and with it hopefully a tonne of exciting news. I thought it would be best to be caught up on all of the nerd news before that. The last couple weeks have been full of tidbits about upcoming DC and Marvel films, it seems everyday comes with new information. Let’s get into some of the highlights of what’s going on in the world of nerds…
6 Batman movies in ‘019
Recently Avengers director Joss Whedon was rumoured to be involved with an upcoming Batgirl movie. Between Whedon’s success with Marvel, and his cult classic Buffy movie, this could be DC’s best move yet. With a planned 2019 release, Batgirl would fit into a slate of Bat-family films. Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing, and The Batman, all fitting into the 80th anniversary year of the Dark Knight. Rumour also includes two animated Bat-films for the same year. A year of the Bat celebration does sound pretty amazing, but should we be surprised. Last year Batman was in five movies, 2 so far this year, with at least two more on the way. Batman is everywhere. The real surprise would be WB announcing that they will give Bats a break and let the hype build up again, a la Star Wars. Also, too much Bat-Fleck sounds terrible, he is no RDJ as Iron Man.
Creepy! While Stephen King spends his time ripping on James Patterson for writing his own book blurb, this chilling trailer was released for It. Everything about this trailer gives me the creeps and I don’t even carry a clown phobia. Though come September, I just might. With more and more Stephen King films being made and remade, it would also be great to see more of the connecting universe that tie the books together.
Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe… Again
One of the bestselling comic mini series of all time, Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe is officially getting its long awaited sequel. With Secret Empire in full swing, it is great to see Marvel return to more of this dark humour fun. The creative team of writer Cullen Bunn and artist Dalibor Talajic return for another romp of “Deadpool going a little too crazy and killing the entire Marvel Universe.”
Oh there’s this:
I don’t know what to make of it. With the date marked on the image being the end of the upcoming tour, all fans can really hope is this is an announcement for the long awaited Tool album. Which would mean the tour would feature lots of new material. Luckily, I have my ticket.
Thor: Ragnorak trailer
As I watched this trailer for the first time an uncontrollable “Oh, $#!+!” popped out of me. Disturbing everyone in the Extreme Pita restaurant I was enjoying my lunch at. Seriously, this trailer is amazing. I personally do not hold the previous Thor movies at the top of my favourite adaptations, but this teaser! The eighties font, the Led Zeppelin, Hela, and of course battle armor Hulk! It is all there, and officially my favourite trailer of ‘017 thus far. Hopefully dethroned this weekend by Star Wars.
Stan Lee @ Calgary Comic Expo
In a last minute surprise announcement just hours ago, 94 year-old Stan ‘The Man’ Lee officially said he will be in Calgary for the ‘017 Comic Con, along with good friend Todd McFarline. This is amazing news for the Green Onion. As despite Stan Lee appearing at the Calgary Expo more than once, they always seemed to be on years I could not make it. This will mark the historic event of me being in the same room as the legend himself for the very first time and possibly the last as Stan has previously sated he will not be able to travel to Canada any more. This is a huge deal!
Thanks booknerds, see you after Star Wars Celbration!
