Chef Green’s Choice Cuts (May 6 ‘017: Star Wars, Dark Tower, Jay and Silent Bob, and more)

It’s been a little while since the last Choice Cuts.  There has been some great announcements and trailers.  Most importantly, we are getting into the season of big blockbuster movies.  Let’s have a look into what there is to get excited about recently, shall we?…

Free Comic Book Day

Happy Free Comic Book Day!  Boy has this event grown from it’s humble origins when you could get 3-5 comics that didn’t have much to do with anything, except free advertising.  This year there are some comics on the free pull list that should get you up and down to your local comic shop.  Some of the highlights include, Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy/Defenders, The Tick, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Check out the full list over here.  And please remember this is a promotion put on to help support local business’s, so be sure to make a purchase while you’re there.  So these small comic shops can survive to feed our geek needs.

Guardians of the Galaxy

We packed up the whole family for an opening day screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 last night.  Everyone loved it, the kids had fun and were blown away, especially with the adorable Baby Groot.  Jenn, who can be a tough nut to crack when it comes to SciFi, thinks she may have a new favourite.  And me, well my face hurt after from all of the laughs and smiling at all the extra Easter eggs.  Great film, one of the best Marvel movies.  But the big news is the announcement of Guardians of the Galaxy 3.  Which after the amazingness of the first two, is easily one of the most exciting things to look forward to after the next Avengers installment.

Cosmere filmage

After the previously announced selling of the complete Brandon Sanderson Cosmere film rights to DMG things got quiet, as they typically do.  But a recent article gives hope to this being more than another book to film deal that leads no where.  It turns out that a massive hunk of moolah has been spent on a virtual reality pitch, in order to find investors for the second half of the massive investment needed.  Giving high hopes to Sanderson fans, and great news that someone out there in Hollywood land is pushing real hard to bring this Universe to life.  I would just be happy to see this VR pitch, and the Cosmere life involved.

Dark Tower

It’s here!  Our first look at Stephen King’s epic Dark Tower series brought to life.  And you know what?  It looks amazing!  Even if you are unfamiliar with the long running fantasy novel series, this looks dope!

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot

First there was going to be a Clerks 3, which ultimately fell apart.  Then, there was going to be Mallrats 2, which ultimately fell apart.  Then, there was going to be the Mallrats TV series, which ultimately fell apart.  Dealing with rights and ownership was certain to be a frustrating experience.  But, instead of throwing in the towel on the View Askew-verse, Kevin Smith took the blows and did all he could.  Taking the only characters that are fully in his ownership, he plans to bring the return of Jay and Silent Bob.  And this time nothing can stop him!  Thank goodness.  If you listen to SmodCast you can hear the excitement from the legend himself, and it sounds like all those failed projects happened for a reason.  So we can get this amazing reboot!

The Last Jedi

Of course there is this trailer…

How can you not get pumped for December.  All I really have to say about this is: I don’t want the Jedi to end…

Thanks booknerds, I’m going to go listen to the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soundtrack some more.

Was trying to make it to a comic book shop today but by the time I got to the one by my house, almost all the free comics were gone. 😦 I’ll go earlier next time.

That Dark Tower trailer looks awesome, although the book scared me to death as a grimdark-green teenager lol. Maybe I’ll have to give it another shot. Thanks again!
