Thanksgiving Mise en Place (Oct. 2 to 8, ‘017)

Oh that’s right, it’s Thanksgiving weekend. Well, it’s Canadian Thanksgiving, often referred to as Proper Thanksgiving, Better Thanksgiving, or More Righter Thanksgiving. Not to be confused with American Thanksgiving, or Wrong Thanksgiving (Wrong-giving), which happens at some other point of time. So, before I start work on the Thanksgiving dinner mise en place, I need to get out the G.O.B. Mise en Place where we talk about stuff, things, and you get a peak at what is coming soon to the blog.

What’s Going On-

Cooking, cooking, cooking. Getting ready for our own family dinner set for 16+ is enough for one weekend. As a Red Seal cook, the brunt of the burden usually automatically falls to me. It’s cool, I do enjoy it. And, my father is usually a big help too. Anyways, I have a lot of prep to get done today. I also started a tradition of making a crab apple pie a couple years ago. So, yeah. This’ll be a quick Mise en Place, cause I got work to do for Proper Thanksgiving.

We have a special guest visiting our home this weekend. Alex’s kindergarten class pet, Chester. Chester is a stuffed racoon who has already had great adventures like dressing up like a superhero or camping out with some of Alex’s other classmates. The goal is to invite Chester into your family activities and share it with the class. So, it only makes sense that Chester would make an appearance on the Mise en Place.

Last Week’s Posts-

As always you can look forward to a fresh episode of Plog the Podcast on Tuesday. I have no idea what that will look like yet as we are hitting record later today. I have been plotting a fresh Top 10, which I haven’t done in a while. So, look forward to that in the next couple weeks. There is a couple book reviews on their way still. I think I will set a day of the week dedicated to reviews. That way each week I can do a review of a book, graphic novel, or kidlit and there will be a steadier stream of such. And, what if there was a fresh Deconstructed up for the weekend?

Thanks booknerds, happy Better Thanksgiving weekend.

  1. Umm…Thanksgiving is in November so you’re a little early here. You’re thinking of Halloween. THAT’s the one in October. Still, I hope you had a wonderful (Pretend) Thanksgiving! I hope Chester enjoyed himself too.

Nonono, you are thinking of Rememberance Day. It is kind of like giving thanks but with less turkey and pie and more World War history. Thanksgiving is celebrated appropriately during October, the height of harvest.

      1. I think you’re confusing Thanksgiving with Pumpkin Cheesecake Day. I can see how this would happen. Pumpkin has entered into it’s all star roll for this time of year. So, yeah, there’s good food on Pumpkin Cheesecake Day (in October) and it can easily be confused with Thanksgiving (in November).

Hmm, you may be mistaking the date of Thanksgiving because of television programming. You see, in November there is nothing good to watch. There is a lull between Halloween specials and Christmas specials. Therefore television programmers will fill the void with reruns of Thanksgiving episode that take place in the earlier weeks of October. I don’t blame you for getting it confused. Clearly the issue is with the media.

    Well Happy Thanksgiving there!
I tried to get my fam to start an apple pie tradition too but it didn’t take. 😑
I love it with ice cream! 😋
